How To Use Custom Values Inside SMS and Email
Introduction
In today's data-driven environment, custom values serve as a pivotal tool for businesses to enhance customer interaction and streamline operations. These user-defined data placeholders are integral in managing personalized information across various systems such as customer relationship management (CRM), content management systems (CMS), and marketing automation platforms. This article provides a comprehensive guide on how to effectively implement and utilize custom values to maximize your business efficiency and customization capabilities.
What are Custom Values?
Custom values are specific data points or variables tailored to meet the unique needs of an individual or organization. They are used to store and manage personalized information within a system or application, enabling users to efficiently organize, retrieve, and utilize this data.
Key Features of Custom Values
- Personalization: Store individualized information such as names, contact details, preferences, and unique identifiers like account numbers.
- Efficiency: Access and manipulate information easily across different system parts without repetitive data entry.
- Automation: Support automated tasks like field auto-population, personalized email generation, and workflow customization.
- Consistency: Maintain uniform data for entities, valuable for constant details like company addresses or branding elements.
- Flexibility: Adapt to various scenarios thanks to the ability to define custom values based on specific organizational needs.
- Updates: Modify data at its source to automatically update all instances where it's used, ensuring current and consistent information.
- Data Integrity: Use custom values to ensure accurate and consistent information across your systems, reducing discrepancies.
- Segmentation and Filtering: Use custom values as criteria for data set division and categorization, aiding targeted communication and reporting.
- Centralized Management: Manage custom values from a central interface, allowing for easy additions, modifications, or deletions.
- Integration: Link custom values to external data sources like databases or APIs to enhance system data capabilities.
Implementing Custom Values in Your System
There are two main ways to use custom values. One is by using emails and the other by sending SMS.

Using Custom Values in Workflow Emails and SMS:
Automation > Workflows > Create new workflow > Send Email Action
Automation > Workflows > Create new workflow > Send SMS Action
Note: In workflows, you must be using custom values that are associated with the triggers, otherwise, the values won't be populated. If you are using Membership-related custom values, you have to make sure you use at least one Membership-related trigger in your workflow.
Custom values are a robust tool for any business that relies on personalized data management. By enabling better personalization, efficiency, and data integrity, custom values can significantly enhance your operational workflows and customer interactions. Implementing these values thoughtfully will ensure that your organization is able to adapt and thrive in a competitive, data-driven market.
